The 2L 16V Vauxhall / Opel Ecotec is more precisely known as the XEV and, as might be expected from the name, is an engine developed from the earlier XE.

This was the first of Vauxhalls engine's to carry the Ecotec family name and was the production engine for the early Vectras, etc.

The redeveloped cylinder head is designed to decrease emissions whilst at the same time boosting low to mid range torque. Whilst the issue of emissions does not generally matter for motor sport applications the improved torque through the mid range makes this an excellent base engine for a lot of motor sport applications where a wide power band is as important as peak BHP.
